Those Who Gave

Over and Out

No more...No more! Please no more.
My pain, this burning pain,
Do I leave this world cremated?
Strapped in this perished plane.

Heavens fogged, shell and smoke.
Blistered paint swells over my wing,
Her nose now banking to the earth
Sun splintered by shattered fin.

My Spitfire now in final throes,
Proud Merlin silent, no prop in spin,
Flames lick over oil soaked derma,
Alike my peeling wing.

Mother Earth hastens to meet me,
Dreaded nightmare now so real,
Tears wash over beaded sweat,
"Dear Lord, can't I appeal?"

Silent now, only rushing wind
Eyelids slip, tiring stare,
What was once an agile mind,
Has lost all thoughts of care.

My final spin,
Our Father...
Peace is now with me.
